General Manager – Vessel Construction

JOB DESCRIPTION – GM VESSEL CONSTRUCTIONPosition / Job Title - General Manager (Vessel Construction)Division - EngineeringLocation - Abu DhabiReporting to - CGM EngineeringPurpose - To lead and manage the Development of the Vessel Construction Business Unit;Direct reports - Manager Fujairah Vessel Construction, Manager Abu Dhabi Vessel Construction;Works with - GM Commercial and Contracts, GM FinanceReporting to - CGM EngineeringKey Responsibilities:Profit and Loss - Assumes full responsibility for profit and loss of the Business Unit;Business Strategy - Helps develop and directs the implementation of Business Unit strategy in alignment with Division Strategic Priorities;Asset Value - Maximizes the realizable value of the Company’s physical assets through marketing of the Business Unit’s products and services, and optimizing operational planning;Safe working Environment - Provides a safe and productive working environment for all employees within the Business Unit;Creates new Business Opportunities - Identifies and develops new business opportunities, new markets and major new clients for the Business Unit;Leadership - Provides leadership of the Business Unit to ensure achievement of stated/agreed targets and standards for financial performance, quality, and legislative compliance;People Management - Executes Division Values and Strategy in the Management of People across the Business Unit;Key Relationships - Establishes and maintains alliances, and strategic relationships which the Business Unit has formed;Compliance - Ensures the Business Unit is compliant with all legislative and regulatory requirements;Reputation - Protects and develops the company reputation in the business and local communities within which it operates worldwide;Control - Exercises effective control over all aspects of Business Operations, and provides effective reporting and for all aspects of Business Performance.


Knowledge of:Aluminum Hull Vessels Market - Able to coach others to working knowledge; Aluminum and Steel Hull Vessels Construction Mgt. - Expert contribution to body of knowledge;Operations and Technology Planning and Management in Vessel Construction - Able to coach others to working knowledge; Management Accounting - Sufficient knowledge or skill to work alone;Capital Budgeting - Sufficient knowledge or skill to work alone;Vessel Engineering Principles (Building to class) - Able to coach others to working knowledge;Skilled in:Business Risk Analysis - Sufficient knowledge or skill to work alone;Commercial Evaluation - Sufficient knowledge or skill to support others;Negotiating with Global Clients - Sufficient knowledge or skill to support others;Providing Leadership - Sufficient knowledge or skill to support others;Vessel Construction Engineering Principles - Expert contribution to body of knowledge;Strategy formulation and planning - Sufficient knowledge or skill to work alone;Experience:Marine Construction Industry - 20 years + experience in the Marine Construction IndustryAluminum Hull Industry - 5 years + experience in the construction of aluminum hull vesselsManagement - 5 years + in a Management role, including responsibility for execution of projects with total value greater than $50m turnover per annumContext Experience in international ship or boat building yards, dry docks building typically aluminum speed boats in the 15 to 60m range, and or steel boats in the 30 to 100m range, typically work boats, barges, dredgers, tugs.Qualifications:Professional - Professional (trade) qualifications essential (or Graduate Engineering qualification – see below);Education - Appropriate Graduate Engineering Qualification Post Graduate Qualification in Management Discipline (Desirable)Salary Package:Basic - NegotiableHRA - Yes (suitable)Car Allowance - YesFull Expat Benefits - Including reimbursement of utilities, reimbursement of school fees, medical insurance, life and PA insurance, business class tickets for annual leave.Bonus - Yes
